Student Retreat in Harvard, Mass.
March 10th-11th
A group of Tufts students attended a weeked retreat, designed to continue Pathways' work to promote tolerance and understanding among different religious, ethnic, and cultural groups on campus.  The retreat engaged participants in team-building activities, in-depth dialogue, and planning for activities that will deepen the impact of interfaith/intercultural efforts on campus.  In addition, students participated in an intriguing and complex simulation exercise. For more information on participating in future Pathways retreats contact the facilitators.    

December 2006

Interfaith Week Informational Meeting
December 12th
Pathways hosted an informational meeting on the eve of December 12 to discuss the planning and implementation of Tufts first annual Interfaith Week. Ideas included student panels, invited keynote speaker, film showing, presentation of Pathways student projects from fall seminars, food, booths and lots more!

Interfaith Thanksgiving Dinner

Fieldtrip to St. Ignatius Church
November 19th, 4:00PM
Pathways visited the St. Ignatius Church, built in 1949. St. Ignatius is a Roman Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Boston, staffed by Jesuit priests. Our visit included a tour and explanation of services by Tufts Associate Catholic Chaplain Ann Penick, as well as participation in Sunday mass. The afternoon mass we participated in is geared towards college students and young adults.

Screening of “Imagining Peace” with guest speaker Emmy-winning producer Lisa Gossels
November 17th, 8:00PM
Audience previewed a work-in-progress documentary intimately showing the experience of Israeli and Palestinian teenage girls engaging in dialogue in a summer program in New Jersey, and the reality they each face upon returning home. Afterwards the Producer/Director opened up the floor for questions. 

Fieldtrip to Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge and Mosque in Roxbury
November 17th, 12:00PM
Pathways visited the Islamic Society of Boston in Cambridge for Friday prayers. After prayers, the students traveled across town for a private tour and discussion of architectural elements of the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center in Roxbury which is still under construction, but when opened will be the largest mosque in New England.

Co-sponsored talk by Reverend Hatch
November 15th
Pathways co-sponsored an evening talk with Reverend Hatch, head pastor at the New Mount Pilgrim Missionary in Chicago. He spoke the role of religion in communities and public service, specifically the ministerial alliance he helped build to aid with tsunami and Katrina relief, his work with political organizations, and efforts to address the housing crisis. 

Stand Up for Peace
November 5th
Pathways co-sponsored a stand-up comedy event featuring Jewish comedian Scott Blakeman and Palestinian comedian Dean Obiedallah. 

Fieldtrip to Vilna Shul in Boston
November 3rd, 6:00PM
Pathways visited the Vilna Shul, an old Jewish synagogue in downtown Boston. This synagogue was built in the early 20th Century, and recently renovated. Today, the synagogue is the home of a traveling congregation of young adults in their 20s and 30s. Pathways students got to participate in their lively Friday night services, as well as listen to a talk by Steve Ross, a Holocaust survivor.

Pathways to Leadership
October 25th
Launch of third dialogue group which brings together elected student leaders as mentors and incoming freshman of many religious and political/cultural student groups monthly to discuss issues together (ongoing all year, non-credit).

September 2006

Ramadan/Rosh Hashan Interfaith Dinner
September 26th
Pathways organized an interfaith iftar/dinner to celebrate Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah early in the fall. The dinner included short presentations by the Imam and Rabbi on the meaning of these two Holidays, along with literature, as well as short talks on cross-religious themes given by other Tufts Chaplains.

September 20th
Launching of two Pilot Seminars through Ex-College beginning September 20th culminating with Presentations of Projects Open to the Public December 6:

"OneVoice: What the Isreali and Palestinian People Actually Want?"
September 20th
Pathways co-sponsored a lunch talk that brought to the table two young women: an Isreali and a Palestinian to talk about the peace movement they are involved with and why it is important.

Participation at 9/11 Multi-faith Remembrance Service
September 11th
Pathways Co-Facilitators Christina Tobias-Nahi and Shai Fuxman joined Tufts Chaplains and other speakers to talk about the lessons learned from 9/11 and the need to work together across faith lines.

Two Open House Events on campus to promote the two seminars

Pathways hosted a gathering to thank students who participated in focus groups during the late spring and summer as Pathways was being developed.
